Frida Kahlo de Rivera (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter [who became known especially through her self-portraits painted in a surreal style. Frida Kahlo was born and died in the Mexican capital, Mexico City, in her home, known as the Blue House. She always stated that she was born on July 7, 1910, although the birth certificate attests that she was born on July 6, 1907. By this she wanted her date of birth to coincide with the start date of the Mexican Revolution, so that her life began. with the birth of modern Mexico.
His work is considered emblematic of Mexican national culture, combining surreal style with indigenous traditions. Mexican culture and Native American traditions blend harmoniously into Frida Kahlo’s painting, often her works being often considered naive art, closer to folk art than to the surrealist current itself. In 1938, André Breton, the initiator and theorist of surrealism, considered Frida Kahlo’s painting to be “a ribbon around a bomb.” The artist had a tumultuous marriage (today called “open”) with the great Mexican painter Diego Rivera.
